Exploring the impact of environmental (ground)water requirements on irrigation demands in the food sector

Recently global hydrological models started considering groundwater availability for human consumption. However, the feedback between groundwater abstractions and environmental flow requirements downstream is often underrepresented or disconnected. This presentation will explore our understanding of environmental flow requirements and the trade-off between groundwater abstractions for the food sector and flow requirements for ecosystem protection.
